really low top speeds for the later FTL Drives.
how will increaseing speed caps effect thier speeds? +15 for mult engines doesn't tell me anything specific.

Those speeds for the FTL engines are the first generation of drive. Remember you can improve upon a design you all ready have. So each development project that is successful you would increase the FTL speed by a factor of one. Also, remember the strat hexes are two parsecs wide, 6.52 LY each. So if you do the math, the speeds are actually quite fast.

15% is just that, you multiply the speed by 1.15, or higher if you have more than one extra cap. :AH

Added the following ship types to both the simple and complex naval construction rules.

Gunboat Tender: 50wu, Iron, 1 pp per 2
Gunboat Tenders are a type of ship used to act as a repair point in remote areas for Gunboats and to provide the necessary fuel and provisions for the boats she is responsible for. The transport capacity is 2 Patrol Class Blocks.

Heavy Gunboat Tender: 100wu, Iron, 2 pp per 1
Heavy Gunboat Tenders are a type of ship used to act as a repair point in remote areas for Gunboats and to provide the necessary fuel and provisions for the boats she is responsible for. The transport capacity is 6 Patrol Class Blocks.

Added the following Cap to both the simple and complex naval construction rules.

+X Docking Collars
While gunboats can travel between the stars it is more efficiently done with tenders, and they are generally treated as military liabilities. Slow and fragile, they make attractive targets. As a consequence, some militaries have opted to transport Gunboats on special warships. On warships, every +1 Docking Collar upgrade allows 1 patrol class block per base PP of ship cost. Every +1 Docking collar increases BOTH IUU and Fuel maint by 1.

Example, a base Battleship has a cost of 2 PP, so if it has a +1 Docking Collar Cap it can carry 2 blocks of Patrol Class ships.

On Gunboat Tenders/Heavy Gunboat Tenders, every +1 Docking Collar Cap increases Gunboat docking points by 50% of base. Every +1 Docking Collar on a Tender increases fuel maint by 1.

Added the following resources to the Resource rules.

Helium-3: (He3)
Helium-3 is the fuel of choice for any form of fusion drive. Its efficiency and lack of neutron emissions make it almost perfect as a compact source of energy for a fusion reaction. Unfortunately it is difficult to locate and extract in quantity. The vast majority of Helium-3 is found in atmosphere of Gas Giants and the regolith of most moons and on Carbenaceous type asteroids.

Magnetic Monopoles:
A magnetic monopole is a particle that is described as "a magnet with only one pole" and is the basis for most FTL drives, especially the Gravity Drive. Magnetic Monopoles can only be found on Asteroids and moonlets of size one. Anything else larger destroys the almost non-existant gravity field that a Magnetic Monopole requires to form.

Radioactives:
Fissile isotopes are very rare in Population 2 stars, but fairly common in Population 1 stars. In very young or very active star-forming regions, many usable isotopes may be common, but in most star systems, only three isotopes are available, U235, U238, and Th232.

Rhenium:
A rare silvery-white, heavy, polyvalent transition metal. Rhenium is obtained as a by-product of molybdenum refinement, and rhenium-molybdenum alloys are superconducting and an important component in superconductor manufacture; significantly improves the performance of gauss weapons and related technologies.

Bose-Einstein Condensates:
Bose-Einstein condensate is a state of matter of bosons confined in an external potential and cooled to temperatures very near to absolute zero. Under such supercooled conditions, a large fraction of the atoms collapse into the lowest quantum state of the external potential, at which point quantum effects become apparent on a macroscopic scale. Naturally-occurring pure Bose-Einstein condensates allow for the construction of sophisticated inertial-control fields and reactionless motors.

Ectoplasm:
A strange bacterial mixture, Ectoplasm has astonishing bioactive properties such as rapid regenerative ability.

Hyper-Gluons:
This substance skirts the boundary of accepted biotechnology with its ability to induce significant cognitive increases.

Telomerase:
This substance can be harvested from a number of exotic lifeforms and is the key substance to non-mechanological anti-aging treatments.

Tri-Tanium:
A rare istope of Titanium that is a materiel used in super-strong armor.

Cyanoline:
This rare substance's energy-dispersive properties make it vital in constructing a number of unusual high-energy devices.

Not quite sure I follow you. There have been a lot of rules implemented, can you elaborate a wee bit more. :AH

Ah, ok. They were prolly posted when I was pretty much alone on this project and mainly used this as a log for what had been done. So I never really needed an accurate posts. But since you have joined I have been leaving better posts to log what has been done. :bs

Added the following to the game maps doc. Specifically to the regional terrain section.

Continental Shelf
The continental shelf is an undersea extension of a continent which can stretch for many miles out to sea. This region of the ocean is rich in natural resources such as marine life. Minerals on the continental shelf are also significantly easier to extract than minerals on the floor of the ocean, since the continental shelf is relatively shallow by comparison.

Abyssal Plain
Abyssal plains are flat or very gently sloping areas of the deep ocean basin floor. They are among the Planet's flattest and smoothest regions and are usually the least explored. Abyssal plains cover approximately 40% of an ocean floor and reach depths between 7,200 and 18,000 ft. They generally lie between the foot of a continental shelf and a mid-oceanic ridge.

Mid-Oceanic Ridge
A mid-oceanic ridge is an underwater mountain range, typically having a valley known as a rift running along its axis, formed by plate tectonics. This type of oceanic ridge is characteristic of what is known as an oceanic spreading center. The uplifted sea floor results from convection currents which rise in the mantle as magma at a linear weakness in the oceanic crust, and emerge as lava, creating new crust upon cooling. A mid-ocean ridge demarcates the boundary between two tectonic plates, and consequently is termed a divergent plate boundary.

Gas Giant Atmosphere
Atmosphere is the equivalent of terrestrial Open. While gas giant clouds are visually opaque, they don’t provide significant protection from sensing systems such as radar. Atmosphere has no effect on combat.

Gas Giant Storms
Storms are the equivalent of terrestrial Wilderness. The electrical discharges in Storms foul sensors, providing all Defending Infantry and Powered Armor blocks with +10 Defense, and all Vehicles with +5 Defense. Defending blocks also gain a +20% chance for a successful ambush, allowing them to gain a round of Surprise against the attackers. There is no equivalent to water regions on gas giants.

Added the following to the Naval Construction Rules.

Reaction Drives:
The stereotypical 'rocket', reaction drives propel ships by the application of Newtonian physics. At TL 7 and 8, they are chemical rockets, at high TL8 and 9, they are fission drives, at TL9, they are External Pulsed Plasma, External Fission/Fusion drives, at TL10 they are Fusion and Anti-Matter Drives. These provide a system drive for Non-FTL ships.

Faster Than Light Drives (FTL):
The stereotypical 'skip by relativity', the various FTL drives propel ships by the application of quantum mechanics, and at higher levels 'Fuzzy' Tech. At TL 11, they are Conversion Drives, at high TL14, they are Torus Drives, at TL15, they are Displacement Drives, at TL16 they are Angel Drives, and at TL 18 the Warp Drive shows up and ushers in the Space opera and 'Fuzzy Tech' Drives. These provide a System and FTL drive for Starships.

Jump Drives:
The Jump Drive relies upon the combination of Lorentzian traversable wormholes called Mitchell-Thompson Wormholes, and the Jump Engine’s replication of the negatively polarized Zero Point Energy (also known as Dark Energy), to temporarily join two widely separated points in space in order that a ship may ‘jump’ instantly from one point to the other. In this manner, all relativistic space-time problems are neatly sidestepped and communications between star systems light years apart are made feasible. Jump drives are available once the proper technology is researched. Each 'improvement' in the Jump Drive increases the Jump Range by one Strat Hex.

Guys, I finally worked out the kinks in the population growth! w00t!!! :bs Below is the new example from the pop growth rules:

Region N-2 on Earth has a size code of 7 due to the 50 million people living there. Given a 1D10 die roll of 5, Raw Materials of 6, A Transport Net of 9, and an overall Tech Level of 7, and a popularity of 18, the Population Change Factor is (6 + 9 + 7 + 18) / (7 + 2) = 4.2 rounded down to 4. The availability of food is 13 times what is needed to feed the population and it's modifier is .1. In addition the work availability happens to be 8 times the current populace requirements, so it's mod is .15. Added together they give a positive population growth modifier of .25. the final growth modifier of 0.0005 x 1.25 which gives us a population modifier of 0.000625. The population increase for this month would therefore be 0.000625 percent, giving a population increase of 31,250, upping the population in the region to 50,031,250. The new population in the region has not changed sufficiently to require a change to the size code.

So now we can use both food and work availability in pop growth modification. :ac

Cheers, Thor

System Hex 2805: Red MV Main Sequence (MV)
OR-1, S-2 Planet 664416

how does this break down into regions?

"There are a maximum number of Planetary Regions allowed on a planet by taking the surface area P-Dat and multiplying this by two and then add two for the Polar Regions and then dividing it by two to reflect the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Then this is further modified by presence of water..."

so 6 x2 =12

12 +2 = 14

14/2 = 7. so the total regions is 7? or is it seven for North and 7 for south, counting polar regions?

It would break down into 6 North + NPR, and 6 South + SPR.

Each hemisphere has a number of regions equal to the size number of the P-Dat. :AH
