The Officer
Kchaar stared apprehensively out the small viewport on the cramped command/service module. He and a small handful of others were being given the honor of crewing the first space station the Hive had ever built. The first anyone had ever built, to its knowledge. That was part of the reason the Hive had deemed it necessary to expand to the stars, though, to see if there were races beyond the stars who could be a threat to the True People.
Despite the honor being given to him and his companions aboard the capsule, he could not quell the sense of unease that welled up within him as he saw the forests and hills of his beloved homeland fade into a small green mass on a large blue sea. To be able to remove most of his planet from view merely by placing his hand on the glass made him feel something akin to both fear and insignificance.
He had been highly decorated as both a flyer and soldier before being assigned to the Beholder, the name of the Hive’s star fort. As a High Master, he was subordinate only to the Baron commanding the station. He had been given the title of Director of Security, but he didn’t expect much actual work. His men would probably do simple upkeep and maintenance jobs on the station. A quiet post like this was just the sort of assignment he had wanted though. Even if the view was somewhat unsettling, he was sure he’d get used to it in time.
When he stepped onto the station for the first time, a sense of wonder he hadn’t felt since he first got behind the controls of an Alpha Fighter overtook him. Even when the first rockets had launched to assemble this station, he didn’t grasp the implications. The True People now had a real foothold in space. This would be their stepping stone to greatness! He knew the True People would be able to reach their real potential now that they were spacefaring, and he would help lead them to it!

"Gone now, dispersed by the brutal destruction of this one day, was the belief that the Darkman and his army of the dead were so superior as to be invincible. By attempting to destroy the morale of the Marines, the Darkman had restored it to full vigor. Dia De La Muerto had failed in its objectives."
