The last month Soviet bombers, fighters and naval vessels has made incursions into Norwegian airspace as well as territorial waters. Our submarines and F-16 have been constantly on the watch and deterred the Russians from more then showing their muscle but today Putin announced that a large fleet of naval vessels is going to assume its job of protecting vital Russian ship-traffic.

The fleet is already at sea, counting 4 Battleships and 7 other ships from the Northernfleet including carriers with a total of 47 planes and 10 helicopters, according to the Russian defence minister, Anatolij Serdjukov.

In other words situation is pretty tense right now. The Russians are, however, maintaining that the fleet’s purpose is to operate in the north eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. This exercise of power is (again according to the defence minister) to be carried out between the 5. of December and until the 3. of February, during which time the fleet is planned to carry out 3 trial tactical exercises including fire drills from both land and sea. The vessels are in total set to visit 12 countries.

This could be the beginning of something really bad…
